Shropshire Star report, May 23rd 1969

Source: Shrewsbury local newspaper, May 1969

Text in report: "A 'Knock-out' it was - by the Shrewsbury Team: A Knockout performance by Shrewsbury against Chester has 'netted' them a place in the International heat of 'Jeux Sans Frontieres' (sic).

Cheered on by over 10,000 people, Shrewsbury's 'It's a Knockout' team floored Chester with a 14 - 5 points win in B.B.C. TV's popular madcap competition in the Quarry on Sunday. They were cheered on too by the Deputy Mayor of Shrewsbury, Councillor Dennis Pursell, who along with Borough Council officials, had a ring-side seat for the 'It's a Knockout' encounter.

Shrewsbury started the set of eight zany games impressively, by bringing in their 'Joker' card -- doubling points to be gained in the game -- and winning with Chester still struggling to finish the hard 'table leap-frog' obstacle course."

Caption: "The girls played a big part in Shrewsbury's great 'It's a Knockout' win over Chester on Sunday and our picture shows one sort of trick they had to perform to do it. Sixteen years old Ruth Elcock 'turns turtle' as she swoops down from 15 feet to slot a ball into the box during flight, and her 32-years-old 'pusher' Charles Frank, stands by to push her back up 15 feet to collect another ball."
