Jeux
Sans Frontières returns to British TV screens, as S4C dip their toe in Knockout
territory, entering a selection of teams from Welsh towns. These programmes
were limited to the Wales and West region and were broadcast in Welsh.
In an entertaining diversion from the norm, this year saw the
start of the commentators participating in games themselves, for their
respective countries. This had happened on occasion previously, but this
marked the first time that their participation became a regular innovation.
It should be noted that S4C elected to show the heats in a
different order to mainland Europe for the most part. We at JSFnetUK
have decided to present the 1991 Series Guide in Welsh transmission
order. The European transmission order for each heat is also given.

Did You Know? Although the symbol ‘GB’ appeared on the scoreboard throughout
Europe and at the arenas themselves, the Welsh teams were introduced as coming
from “Pays de Galles”. However, when broadcast on Welsh channel S4C, the Welsh
teams were referred to as ‘C’ (and surprisingly not ‘CYM’ as standard) on the
on-screen scoreboard and the teams' names also appeared in Welsh. |
